The El Paso County Bar Association is a professional association for attorneys that has been serving the local legal community since its founding in March 1902.
The Bar Association’s mission is to provide legal information and services to its members and to promote respect for the law and the legal profession by the public.
The El Paso County Bar Association is a non-profit corporation governed by a board of trustees and president. The El Paso County Bar Association serves approximately 900 members.
A Brief History of the El Paso County Bar Association
In 1901 several Colorado Springs attorneys met and a committee of five was appointed to establish a local Bar Association. In 1902, the Articles of Incorporation for the El Paso County Bar Association were signed and mailed to the Secretary of State. George Musser was named the first president of the Bar Association with about 100 attorneys in the area.
In 1952 the Association celebrated its 50th anniversary featuring speaker Henry McAllister, Jr., the only living incorporator at the time.
In 1955, Henry McAllister, Jr. left his law library to the Bar Association and the El Paso County Law Library was dedicated in the Mining Exchange Building.
In 1960, the El Paso County Bar Association began holding monthly meetings, and in 1961, the El Paso County Bar Auxiliary was founded.
In 1969, the Bar Newsletter was started by Clifton B. Kruse, Jr.
2002 marked the 100th anniversary of the Bar Association, as well as the establishment of the El Paso County Bar Foundation.
The Bar continues to provide its members with numerous quality Continuing Legal Education programs and Committee/Section meetings and events, in addition to providing plentiful services and resources to the local community.
