CLE: 1 General (Approved)

Defending Consumer Debt

This lunch is for both Bankruptcy Law and Solo/Small Firm Sections.

Topic: This crash course examines typical and exotic defenses to lawsuits against consumers. It applies to suits for credit card debts, medical debts, roofing and other construction contracts, and more. We will provide attendees with a detailed eight-page Consumer Collections Defense Checklist which outlines the subject matter of the course. We will also provide an eighty-page form “Mother of All County Court Answers and Counterclaims” which supplies specific text for pleadings on behalf of consumer defendants.

Speaker: David Margrave

Mr. Margrave is a sole practitioner whose practice emphasizes consumer bankruptcy and business law and litigation, including foreclosure defense, and general practice matters. He is a member of the Colorado and El Paso County Bar Associations and the American Inns of Court. Mr. Margrave has conducted seminars and written publications on foreclosure defense, construction and landlord-tenant law.
