Discussion: Steve Bain will speak about practicing natural resources law in Kazakhstan and working as an environmental management consultant in the Czech Republic, covering the practical application of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and issues that lawyers dealing with foreigners should know about. He will also discuss some of the surprises of litigating in other countries and health hazards caused by authoritarian governments that make the United States look pristine.
Speaker: Steve Bain practices environmental and natural resources law in Denver with Welborn Sullivan Meck & Tooley. He joined their office in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 1997 before returning to Colorado in 1999. Before that he worked for two years as an environmental management consultant for the Czech Ministry of Environment in the Black Triangle region of North Bohemia. He also taught International Petroleum Law at DU Law School from 2005-11 and is the managing editor and a contributing author of Environmental Regulation of Colorado Real Property published by the Colorado Bar Association.
