Bar Awards

Every Spring, the El Paso County Bar Association awards outstanding members of our legal community at the Law Day Award Ceremony.

Past Awardees

Anderson Award

Presented to an individual attorney or judicial officer who has demonstrated a high level of professionalism, integrity, and competence in the practice of family law. Criteria for the award is based on the life service and example set by the late Judge Douglas Anderson during his years as a family law judge, mediator and arbiter.

Ben S. Wendelken Award

Presented to an individual showing excellence in the legal field by showing "Competence, Compassion and the Ability to Get Things Done". The Ben S. Wendelken Award is the El Paso County Bar Association's highest annual award.

Brian S. Gardner Award

Presented to an outstanding new lawyer who has made significant contributions to the EPCBA, the legal profession and the community through dedication, legal and volunteer services.

El Paso County High School Mock Trial Competition Victors

Presented to the Regional Mock Trial Team Champions annually.

The Justice Center Pro Bono Firm of the Year

Presented to a law firm who has made significant contributions to the work of The Justice Center, the nonprofit arm of the EPCBA, through their involvement in pro bono service.

Liberty Bell Award

Presented to an individual who has promoted an understanding of the law, promoted awareness of the Bill of Rights, encouraged greater respect for the law, stimulated a deeper sense of individual responsibility, contributed to the effectiveness of government institutions and furthered a better appreciation of the law.

Lohman Award

Presented to an individual that has dedicated their talents and time to improving the lives of children. This award is presented every other year. The next awardee will be in 2024.

Mikki Kraushaar Award

Presented to an outstanding individual on behalf of our community's senior citizens.

The Mo Frederick Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year Award

Presented to a volunteer who has made significant contributions to The Justice Center, the nonprofit arm of the EPCBA, through their involvement in pro bono service.

Portia Award - Presented by the Colorado Women's Bar Association - El Paso County Chapter

Presented to an outstanding woman lawyer for services in the community. Portia is the heroine of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice". In the play, Portia disguises herself as a man to assume the role of a lawyer's apprentice, whereby she saves the life of her true love's friend in court.
