Colorado – Hybrid  |  Full-Time  |  $25–$35/hour, DOE  |  Benefits Negotiable

About the Role

TherapyWize is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated Paralegal to support a Colorado-licensed mental health professional, Child and Family Investigator (CFI) and Parental Responsibility Evaluator (PRE). This is a court-facing, deadline-driven role at the intersection of family law and mental health fields, ideal for a paralegal who takes pride in precision, organization, and helping produce a work product that directly informs judicial decisions about children's best interests.

Under Colorado's Uniform Dissolution of Marriage Act, CFIs are court-appointed investigators who evaluate parenting disputes under C.R.S. § 14-10-116.5, and PREs conduct more extensive evaluations under C.R.S. § 14-10-127.  This role requires skills in case management, drafting, scheduling and other investigative support roles across both types of engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Case File Management & Billing

  • Create and maintain organized, accurately billed case files for every investigation, following documented checklists and procedures.
  • Track billable time consistently and help develop a unified system for monitoring hours across cases.

Scheduling & Case Flow

  • Manage and prioritize the evaluator's calendar to keep investigations timely, on track, and within budget.
  • Support smooth case flow by anticipating scheduling conflicts and proposing solutions during case review meetings.

Records Requests

  • Process attorney and court records requests within Colorado's required response windows, including timely file transfers and digitization.
  • Communicate with counsel regarding receipt of files and assist in tracking related hearing deadlines.

Drafting, Correspondence & Court Filings

  • Draft and format correspondence, court filings, and case summaries with strong grammar, punctuation, and professional tone suitable for judicial review.
  • Use templates and checklists to standardize communications on matters such as drug testing, client timeliness, and clarification of court orders.
  • Communicate proactively via tools such as Microsoft Teams, routing all outgoing communications through the evaluator's review and approval.

Proofreading & Quality Assurance

  • Proofread reports and filings for grammar, clarity, and logical flow, recognizing that document quality can materially affect case outcomes.
  • Flag language that would be unclear to a layperson and provide direct, constructive feedback to strengthen final work product.

Investigation Support

  • Request, track, and compile documents and records from parties and collateral resources into a standardized format.
  • Take detailed notes during update meetings/status conferences and review interviews to ensure information is captured accurately and promptly.
  • Document follow-up attempts to gather information for the court's consideration.

Collateral Contact Outreach

  • Conduct and track outreach to collateral contacts, maintaining organized records of attempts and responses.

Project & Workflow Management

  • Use project management tools (e.g., Monday.com) to stay in sync with the evaluator, particularly in a hybrid/remote work environment.
  • Help keep calendars, case trackers, and project boards current and accurate.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and propose improvements to workflows, sharing ideas openly in collaborative planning and review sessions.
  • Help develop and refine checklists and procedures that improve accuracy, transparency, and turnaround time.

Professional Development

  • Engage in ongoing learning about domestic violence, child abuse, resist/refuse dynamics, and other topics relevant to family court investigations.
  • Participate in relevant training and apply new knowledge to strengthen report quality and case support.
  • Some level of professional development and ongoing training is a requirement.

Qualifications

  • Colorado paralegal certificate or equivalent education/experience; candidates ranging from entry-level to experienced family law paralegals are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in family law strongly preferred; prior experience supporting a CFI, PRE, Guardian ad Litem (GAL), or similar court-appointed evaluator role is a plus, but not required — training is provided.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including strong command of grammar, punctuation, and professional writing style.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple case deadlines simultaneously.
  • Comfort with digital tools such as Microsoft Teams, Monday.com (or comparable project management software), and Microsoft Office, and/or ability to learn the tools quickly.
  • Discretion and sound professional judgment in handling highly sensitive, confidential family court information is required per statute.
  • Willingness to learn about and engage thoughtfully with difficult subject matter, including child abuse, domestic violence, and resist/refuse dynamics.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
  • Familiarity with C.R.S. § 14-10-116.5, § 14-10-124§, 14-10-127, § 14-10-129 and § 14-10-131 is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Benefits: Negotiable and tailored to the individual employee's needs — we welcome a conversation about what matters most to you.
  • Schedule: Full-time, approximately 35–40 hours per week, hybrid (in-office/remote) within Colorado.
